Old Pepeha
My first attempt at a new Pepeha (posted 09/02/21) reflected my move to Pewhairangi from Ōtepoti. I chose the mountain and awa because these are the closest to where I'm currently living. However, this is a temporary place and I have no real connection to it. Draft 2, with the help of Mereana Watere, is the corrected version, which changes rāua to ratōu (3 names not 2) and moved this to the grammatically correct place in the sentence. I had also placed the ancestral connections in the wrong order, starting at the widest affiliation and narrowing it when it should be the other way around. Mereana and I had much discussion about the inclusion of Ōtepoti, and decided that unless I was going to use a maunga and awa from Ōtepoti, it would not be correct to include this. We also discussed whether I could omit the mountain and river entirely - I have never lived long enough anywhere to be able to claim a connection to any one place, nor did my parents. My Whakapapa (Appendix 2) is the result of these discussions.
